Parents of Left Handers
Parents of Left Handed Children
At Left Handed Clubhouse, we are committed to empowering, understanding, and educating the Lefties of the world.
By providing resources and information to Left Handers, and those who love them, we have made an ongoing dedication to help Left Handed people reach their maximum potential.
Being the parent of a left handed child can often be an adjustment, especially if the parents are right handed. Getting accustomed to placing things in the child’s left hand, or setting things on his or her left side can take some time, but it is a small price to pay for having a left handed child.
The Left Handed Clubhouse has gathered information provided by Left Handers on a variety of topics.
The topics and resources for parents of Left Handed children are intended to provide insight and inspiration to those who are unfamiliar what it means to be lefty.
With today’s accessibility to the internet, southpaws from all over the world are able to provide parents of Lefties with the information we wish our parents had access to!
If you have found a resource that you would like to share with other parents of Left Handed children, please feel free to contact us. We’d love to share your knowledge.
Education
At Left Handed Clubhouse, we place a high emphasis on education for Left Handers.
Having grown up as Lefties, we are familiar with the challenges that face the southpaw student. In fact, most of Left Handed Clubhouse’s Team, (90% of us) faced extreme challenges in mathematics and science throughout school. We often felt unmotivated to learn those subjects because our left handed brains were not considered during our education. Even though we didn’t do well in math and sciences during high school, The Left Handed Clubhouse is proud to say that we all would consider ourselves “knowledgeable” in most math and science topics. The reason for this is that we learned how to make math and science work with our Lefty brains.
We used to dread learning and associated it with feelings of incompetence, disappointment and frustration. Now that we have learned to make it work for us, we love learning and have dedicated ourselves to being lifelong learners.

Since we have taking such a liking to learning, we have done a lot of research on being Left Handed. We have found a lot of great tools that every southpaw parent should check out. We also made sure that our resources weren’t costly or ineffective, to make sure that our readers and visitors get what they need with what they have. We hope that you will find these tools as useful as we did. By sharing these resources, we are confident that we can inspire you to bring out the very special gift in your Left Handed child.
Left Handed Related Books
We have found some books that are sure to help you a lot more with understanding your Left Handed child. There are lots to choose from, but our Team Members have put together a “favorites” list that we think would really be useful.
The Left-Handed Backward Book.
This book gives great tips on how to help Left Handed children overcome the obstacles associated with “southpaw syndrome.” We recommend this for any parent looking to support their lefty.
Loving Lefties: How to Raise Your Left-Handed Child in a Right-Handed World.
Another great book giving insight on how to understand your Left Handed Child and his or her misunderstood minority group
The Left-Handed Backward Book.
It sounds funny, we know. But binders, books, and other similar items were just not made for Lefties! This book is a great way to show your left handed child that there are ways for Left Handers to learn.
Listen to what other people said about the book:
“This book is a creative way to help children learn. My nephews love it because of its unconventionality. They’re intrigued by the fact that it doesn’t open like all their other books. It helped them count to 10 AND learn about the different animals the whole way! Great learning tool.”
“This is such a cute book. The alliterations make it such an fun and easy read and the illustrations are so kid friendly and colorful. Both my 3 year old and 1 year old really enjoy this book, especially because it’s backwards which makes it stand out from the rest of their books! I highly recommend it!”
The Left Stuff: How the Left-Handed Have Survived and Thrived in a Right-Handed World.
We love this book. We think that anyone interested in Left Handedness should check it out. It gives insight into the Lefty Advantage and why it is so necessary to the Right hander dominated. Maybe you’ll even figure out why there are so few lefties in comparison to righties.
Enough said, right?

Tools for Left Handed Success
Most Left Handed People learn to adapt to a world where products are designed for Righties.
That is because many of us grew up before specialty products were easily accessible.
By trying Lefty specific products, Southpaws are able to get a taste of how the world would be if Lefties were the majority.
It also helps Righties get a feel for the challenges that are faced by their often misunderstood Left Handed Loved ones. As the parent of a Lefty child, we recommend that you try using at least one left handed tool. Feeling the awkwardness and discomfort that are experienced, particularly for the first few (or hundred) times, will help you understand why your Left Handed child may seem “unwilling to learn.”
Nearly every product that is made for manual use can be found designed for Lefties. We’ve put our favorites for parents below:
Left Handed Scissors
Every kid should have a pair. Every parent should try it once.
